Dumaguete is hip, cool, and laid back. The city’s boulevard is my favorite college professor’s favorite strolling place. To me, Dumaguete is not just the hip university city that it is, it is also an extension of Siquijor because my grandpa used to work here and we would come here to visit him when school was off. It is easy to explore the small city in a day and hop on to another destination after the sun sets. If you only have one day in Dumaguete, then read on for my recommendations. Advertisements
This guide to a Visita Iglesia in Siquijor was something I wrote for Tripzilla before this year’s Holy Week. I patterned this after a recent visita iglesia I did with a guest who visited Siquijor for the first time. While Siquijor will not boast of centuries-old and magnificent churches, we do have our share of historic churches.
I first heard of Hale Manna (which means “good energy” in Sanskrit) when our wedding singer got married there last year. We finally got to visit one weekend this summer to celebrate our parents-in-law’s 43rd wedding anniversary. The place did not disappoint, and I took back to the city with me only good energy.
On our second day in Tagbilaran, I was aiming to wake up at 6AM to be able to eat puto and tsokolate at their public market because as far as I can remember, the tsokolate I drank in Tagbilaran was the best tsokolate I had in my life (no offense to my Grandma!). But I wasn’t able to wake up at 6AM because the bed was so inviting and I did some work before I went to sleep the night before so I was exhausted. Anyway, a reason to visit again. Here is what I would do if I am not doing the Bohol countryside tour.
I always treat Bohol an an important island, in terms of history, for many reasons, including the “Blood Compact,” Dagohoy’s 80-year revolution, Pres. Carlos P. Garcia, and Yoyoy Villame, who made recalling Philippine history easier by making a song out of it. In addition to these significant contributions to Philippine history, Bohol also offers one-of-a-kind experience with the best of stunning rural landscapes and pristine beaches.
