The first time we visited Bacolod City, we stayed at a hotel called Bascon Hotel. It was an old hotel, with dark wood panels, dark carpet, and a dark hallway. The “lobby” consisted of one wooden bench and a long horizontal wall mirror and was sparsely decorated. Our room, like the hallway, was dark and “well-curtained,” the bathroom tiles may have been witnessed to many a crime or passion. Advertisements
Hanoi was not an expensive city to visit. In fact, even though we stayed there for more than a week, we spent well beneath our budget and was even able to squeeze in an expensive and indulgent (but truly enjoyable) afternoon at the Sofitel Legend Metropole hotel and some shopping. This is my budget guide for Hanoi and this post accompanies my Weekend in Hanoi post.
From many guide books/blogs, I always read about the 36 Streets of Hanoi, which make up the Old Quarter. Every day, for eight days, we walked the Old Quarter, from east to west, north to south, and we almost did not walk on the same street ever. I was counting up to 36 streets, and I was ready to conclude that the guide books are lying. There are no 36 streets. The Old Quarter is a maze and there are a hundred streets!
Chiang Mai is a city bursting with tourists (but not in an overrated way). The city does its tourism management so well that, despite knowing there are many tourists, it did not feel crowded at all. Because Chiang Mai attracts millions of tourists in any given year, finding accommodation is not difficult. But choosing the right for us proved more difficult than anticipated because there were so many to choose from!
Lovely guesthouse with swimming pool in Sukhothai.
Strategically located near Bangkok railway and Hua Lamphong MRT.
During our first five days in Bangkok, I booked through Agoda a family room with Orchid Hostel near the Patpong Night Market (and the red light district) because it was the only hostel I saw that could fit four individuals in one room and that would fit our budget of less than P500 per person per night. We paid P248.16 per person per day or a total of P1,240.80 for five days. You can’t have everything for this price, of course. Read on for more.
Pan Pan Saga Villa Hotel is a budget hotel that I booked through Agoda I had to cancel my previous booking with another hotel in Siem Reap, Cambodia. The other hotel I booked was resort-type, complete with cottages and a swimming pool. Pan Pan paled in comparison, with no swimming pool, and not even a proper restaurant. But we only had one day in Siem Reap and only needed a good place to sleep and take bath. Pan Pan was able to give all of that to us, and an efficient tour of Siem Reap and the Angkor Archaeological complex.
On the occasion of my sister’s annual vacation from work, I was looking for a place our family of 7 adults and 1 child would stay where we would all sleep comfortably and be able to cook. My husband and I chanced upon The Padgett’s Place’s booth at the travel fair in Ayala Center mid-July, and thought the P3,850 per night is reasonable enough. Read on for my review on the condominium.
Last July, our cousin booked for us a family room at 717 Cesars Place in Tagbilaran, Bohol. I was looking for a hotel that could accommodate four adults, 1 12-year old teenager, and 1 10-year old teenager, and my search in Agoda led me to Cesars Place. I think the hotel can be classified as mid-range, but it is relatively new and is still clean. Read on for my reviews, whether I recommend it, it’s pros and cons.
Last August, my sister’s friend invited her to stay at Paragon Suites as she has booked for an extra day she won’t be using. My sister dragged us with her, and because we loved our stay on the first day, we booked for another day. I have passed by the Paragon Suites building countless of times but has never considered staying there, mostly because it was far from where we were staying. But… our stay there was great and there were some things I thought I should share why you should consider staying at Paragon Suites in your next visit to Cebu (probably in the 2017 Sinulog?).
